Staff Sgt. Arnold "Ray" Lambert

Ray Lambert is recognized by President Trump on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France. Although he was critically wounded during the 1st wave of 1st Infantry Division soldiers onto the beaches of Easy Red Sector, Ray continued fighting to save his fellow soldiers from both the trechery of the waters of the English Channel and the lethal fires from the bluffs above them. He only stopped when he lost consciousness from blood loss. He spent a year in a British hospital recovering from his wounds and broken back from being crushed by the ramp of a Higgins Boat.

"Ray, the Free World salutes you."  -President Donald Trump

The story of how smoking a Hemingway Short Story cigar has become a tradition when visiting Ray at Arlington National Cemetery is one of Erik's favorite to share.

Ray enjoyed the view from his porch.

Our last picture together, August 2019. The world took away visiting him shortly after.
